On Bayou St. John, across from “Big Lake” in City Park
The bridge over Bayou St. John at DeSaix Avenue is closed and under construction. You will have to approach the festival either via Esplanade or approaching on Desaix from the east. Also late afternoon on the first Saturday (October 12), Moss Street in front of the Haus will be blocked to automobiles. The parking gate will be available from the Esplanade side, but approaching via Desaix will not be possible until the foot race is over.
Bicycles
Free Bike Parking – behind the fence to the right of pedestrian entrance on Moss Street. Some additional bike parking outside the fence by the front doors of the Haus on Moss Street.
Car Parking
The Cabrini High School Dad’s Club (3400 Esplanade Ave) is offering parking for $20 per day. Fridays 4pm-closing, Saturdays 1pm-closing. 7 minutes walk to Oktoberfest OR this year there will be a free ADA shuttle bus to Oktoberfest to and from Cabrini. Link to map.
Parking on Deutsches Haus site: Some limited parking on site. First come first serve, $25 per day. Enter on Moss Street at the gate closest to Esplanade
There could be spots available in City Park or in the neighborhoods around Esplanade and De Saix. Please be courteous to our neighbors by not blocking driveways. No parking is allowed by the city on the grass banks of Bayou St. John. (The meter maids were spotted putting tickets on cars parked on the bayou grass last year.)
Streetcar & Bus
#48 Canal Streetcar – City Park/Museum. Runs from downtown to the “Museum of Art” stop at Carrollton & Esplanade every 20 minutes during Fest hours. 6 minutes walk to Oktoberfest.
#90 Carrollton Bus. Runs from Carrollton & Claiborne to Gentilly & Elysian Fields. Eastbound stops on Wisner near the foot of Esplanade near the City Park museum street. (6 minutes walk) Westbound stops at Desaix and Moss (4 minute walk). Once per hour on weekends. Stops running at 9:30-10 pm .
#91 Jackson-Esplanade Bus. Stops at Esplanade Ave and Moss Street (4 minute walk). Runs once per hour during Fest hours. Runs from Cemeteries on City Park Ave, Esplanade, past the French Quarter on Rampart and to the river on Jackson.
